Hoskins lost mine
On the ocean, a 3 foot wide basalt dike [#14] cuts across the beach and heads up to the mountain.
This is the start of hoskins vein and It has geodes of quartz and agate imbedded in it.

It appears again half way [15] up the mountain , then again in the center of the crater [16], 



The vein was created by the exploding volcano and the vein passes by the north edge of the crater.

In 1994 I owned the mineral rights to this vein, I let a friend go dig crystals. I told him how to find the vein, he set out on his motorcycle. at the end of the day he came back with a bag of crystals. One of the geodes was about 6 inches wide He broke it open and gave me this piece.






A road cuts through the dike at the outer rim of the volcano, it’s still about 2 feet wide  It seem to have rusted  , its like rusted gouge and the geodes are loose and there is agate present.
I broke this geode because you could hear rattling in side and the two crystals were loose in side. These are the same crystals that appeared in an Indian archeological dig [shoe maker bay]. they came from thousands of years ago and  these can be found in the port alberni mecum.
But like the mine this vein has been buried [road deactivation].

OCT 2008 trip to the crystal mine




I was not sure if  the road had been reopened, I do know the local logging company HFN logged around this spot.  from the site you can see the spot on the ocean where the dike starts  its journey up the mountain.
in October 2008 I had a nice young lady drive me up to the spot,  I told her she could find  some nice crystals if it is open . 

we jumped into her 4 by 4 and headed to the top of the mountain.
we where in luck , they logged and re opened the road. 
we drove the road till we saw it it cut across the road the same as it did years ago.
   you can see, its the same  width as the dike.
a little digging and she had a big geode and lots of agate.  

the shear has thin veins of agate and geodes mixed in with the rust. 

The dikes 14, 15 ,17, 16 ,and 19, are all in a straight line, crossing old Hoskins gold mine exactly. 











Just  below hoskins mine is the dike again you can see  it cuts across the pit #19














In a rock pit at the bottom of the mountain their[20]are geodes good quartz crystal's and agate imbedded in the iron.

Hoskins gold was created by the vein   breaking.
