The search
goldbeach.jpg.JPG (132173 bytes)  In 1985, I set out to find an old collapsed mine I was told about and I had an edge on the others. I had already found gold and knew it was possibly the only gold in the area.
The mine was opened before the 1st world war, when a man "Hoskins" and his sons were panning a placer deposit.
They were working there way up  when they hit the source, then they dug out the vein and exposed it. They were surprised to see A 1 foot wide vein of quartz with paper thin pieces of gold the size of coins imbedded in it.

According to legend the son went to war,  after the war the old man returned to the mine only to find  the mine was filled by a  20 ft slide. It collapsed on the mine, filling it beyond what the old man could dig out, he left it.
Then some time in the  1950’s ,a woman from the town found the placer pit and  . According to the history she would pan about one ounce of gold per day. All she had to do is dig to  the bottom to find the placer gold the old man and his sons exposed  30 years earlier.
In 1985 I found it on the opposite side of the mountain, from our beach gold
A slide was clearly visible on the right side and  the placer pit was still open. We mapbamfield1.jpg (23002 bytes)set up a pond and panned the ground,  this pit was where we got our first real nugget. hoswammen.jpg (27193 bytes)
We began to search for the Indian gold.  Having no control over surface rights, the hillside got logged.  The loggers saw the pit we dug in and filled it with logs and derby burying the placer pit. making it impossible for me to pan placer gold on my own claim.  When we first found it, it was blue like the picture below.
It was an old mine in a  beautiful old growth forest.  We new the old Spanish mine was not far
and owning the 1st mine, we set out to find the sacred mine.bluegrd.jpg (12251 bytes)

hoskinspitt.jpg.JPG (183388 bytes)in 1986 I approached the government and asked if I could log a road to the mine to generate money to open the mine, they said yes, but I had to give the wood to M.B. , I also asked if I could do some placer mining to generate money, they said I could not because it might damage the stream. The next thing I new ,while we were looking and staking the front of the mountain. They clear cut the hill and buried the mine. It was obvious that they filled in the mine on purpose,  they had to have seen our diggings.
